Chlorine dioxide has a strong adsorption and penetration ability to microbial cell walls, can effectively oxidize sulfhydryl-containing enzymes in cells, and can also quickly inhibit the synthesis of microbial proteins to destroy microorganisms.
The role of chlorine dioxide in the coronavirus pandemic
As an excellent disinfectant, chlorine dioxide can play an important role in the field of epidemic prevention and infection control during the current coronavirus epidemic. In February 2020, the General Office of the National Health Commission issued a notice on the issuance of guidelines for the use of disinfectants, pointing out that activated chlorine dioxide is suitable for disinfection of water (drinking water, hospital sewage), object surfaces, food and drinking utensils, food processing tools and equipment, fruits and vegetables, medical devices (including endoscopes) and air.
On November 24-26, 2020, at the National Academic Annual Conference on Disinfection and Infection Control, the application of chlorine dioxide in epidemic prevention and control was also mentioned many times.
For example, during the epidemic prevention and control of the new crown, the terminal air disinfection can be disinfected with 500mg/L chlorine dioxide and other disinfectants according to the 20ml/m³ spray method for 60min, and the window can be opened after disinfection.
